Face Painting - Where Did It begin?

The art of Face Painting dates back to early history if you consider all the different forms it can take - from tribal insignia and political statements to battle camouflage and religious and spiritual ritual. However, Face Painting as a kids party activity dates back only to the 1980s! Of course, before then we had clowns and entertainers, but all the wonderful and imaginative designs such as those on the happy faces in our online Face Painting gallery would not have been seen prior to 1980.
